About Us

The Psychology of Relationships Interest Group has around 400 members. The aims of the Group are reflected in the Terms of Reference below. These aims have been operationalised through the organisation of seminars, symposium at the APS National Conference, regular newsletters, and by our own annual Conference of the Relationships Interest Group.

Terms of Reference

  1. To provide a national framework for promoting professional activities, practice, research, education, training and discussion relevant to the developments and enhancement of relationship skills throughout the life-span.
  2. To develop and disseminate educational and training materials regarding relationships.
  3. To promote the development of research regarding relationships, relationship education, and relationship therapy within the discipline of psychology.
  4. To relate with other professional groups whose aims are congruent with those of the Interest Group and in accordance with those of the APS.
  5. To provide expert advice to the APS on issues relating to its area of interest when the need arises.

Awards

The Psychology of Relationships Award and The Psychology of Relationships Thesis Award

The APS Interest Group on the Psychology of Relationships gives two research awards every year. The awardees for 2009 were announced at the 2009 conference in Brisbane.

Congratulations to Dr. Wendy Ducat from Griffith University who won the 2009 thesis award.

The 2009 Research Excellence award will be announced in mid-2010.

Conference Proceedings

Proceedings of the Annual National Conference of the Relationship Interest Group are published each year. These proceedings are peer reviewed and may be eligible for DEST points to eligible authors. Copies of the proceedings are available from the National Office of the APS for around AUD$15.00 plus postage and handling.
