Accommodation and sightseeing

We have chosen the beautiful seaside suburb of Glenelg for this conference venue. Glenelg is a short taxi ride from the Adelaide Airport (15 to 20 minutes depending on the traffic conditions). Glenelg offers wide sandy beaches with family-friendly swimming and entertainment options. There are a wide variety of cafés, restaurants and eateries, as well as a marina and general shopping on the doorstep of the conference venue.

Excellent absolute seafront accommodation is available at the conference venue, the Stamford Grand Adelaide. They have kindly offered a number of Deluxe City View rooms to conference delegates at the conference rate of $190 per night twin-share. To book a room, contact Reservations on 08 8461 0399 and quote code NA 1311.

As delegates are responsible for booking their own accommodation, please ensure that your choice of accommodation is situated in Glenelg unless you are willing to travel to and from the city centre each day. The conference venue has a "sister" hotel, the Ramada Grand, which is in metropolitan Adelaide - approximately an hour from the conference venue if you were using public transport to get to Glenelg instead of going for a paddle after breakfast!

For those on a limited budget, or looking for something different, Glenelg offers a full range of accommodation options from budget motels and backpackers to luxury apartments. Visit www.southaustralia.com/Accommodation.aspx  and enter ‘Glenelg' as your choice of suburb to see descriptions of the many options and prices. You can book your accommodation directly on that webpage, a free service organised by the South Australian Tourism Commission. Explore the website for more information about Glenelg and other sight-seeing options if you decide to add a holiday before or after your conference. Remember that the weather in November in Adelaide is usually warm with generally a high level of UV so the usual precautions of sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and shirt apply outdoors.

Post-conference winery tour

Our conference venue is not far from some of Australia's premier wine producing regions.  As a special post-conference event, we are considering organising a winery tour to Mclaren Vale. This activity will take place on Sunday 16 November, 2008. There are limited places and some pre-planning and organisation will be needed. We are asking those interested in attending to register their interest in this event as soon as possible with Ms Amie Foran foran.amie@saugov.sa.gov.au.
